How to Modify Pick List Values


Picklists provide a drop-down list of values the user can choose from. Learn how to add, delete and edit pick list values.

  After reading this article you will be able to:

  • Navigate to the object field
  • Add a new picklist value
  • Modify which values are displayed
  • Reorder pick list values


Step One: Navigate to the Object Field

In this example we will modify the Source field on the Sales Up object


  1. From Setup click the Object Manager.
  2. Enter Sales Up in the quick find area.
  3. Click Sales Up.

  1. Select the Field & Relationship tab.
  2. Enter Source in the quick find area.
  3. Click Source.

Step Two: Adding a New Value

  1. In the values category click the New button.

  1. Type <Source Values> you wish to add in the text area.
  2. Select the appropriate record type name. 
  3. Click Save.

Step Three: Activate / Deactivate a Value

  1. Go to the Inactive Values section and click Activate on the desired value.

  1. Under the values sections, click Deactivate on the desired value.

Step Four:  Reorder pick List Values

  1. In the values section, click the Reorder button.

Note: The values are in the order they will be displayed in the page layout


  1. Select the value you wish to move.
  2. Click the direction button to move the value.
  3. Click the Save button.
